How Congress let Monsanto off the hook

vilsack gmo monsantoBy Michael Collins
COTO Report

Not many people like the messes Congress makes but everybody should see how they’re made.

This article takes a close look at the legislation just passed by Congress and signed by President Obama allowing the Secretary of Agriculture to issue executive orders that bypass regulations, safety, and science for the purpose of speeding genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and genetically engineered seeds (GE) and crops to market.  The way the law is written, Secretary Tom Vilsack can lift restrictions on GMOs for a set period and, it appears, do so without hindrance from the courts.

According to an international scientific group monitoring radiation around the world, the Fukushima reactors are emitting nuclear toxins at levels approaching those seen in the “aftermath” of Chernobyl. The Chernobyl disaster began with an explosion, Fukushima is a smoldering cauldron of toxins. Chernobyl had 180 tonnes of nuclear fuel on site. Fukushima has 1700 tonnes of nuclear fuel on site. This isn’t the beginning of the end as hoped. It’s looking like the end of the beginning.

Leaked cables confirm Pope’s distance from GMO debate and limited stance on bioethics

Dec. 20, 2010 UPDATE: Newly Leaked Cable: Pope ‘quietly supportive’ of GMOs

By Rady Ananda

A leaked June 2009 cable from the US Vatican Embassy confirms the Pontiff’s refusal to take a stance on genetically modified foods. The Pope’s refusal to reject GM foods creates a vacuum in light of his condemnation of human genetic manipulation and his promotion of environmental stewardship.

Last month, at least one news source falsely reported that the Pope approves genetically modified foods. Vatican officials immediately denied such claims, but did admit there is debate within the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. The cable confirms:

Of/By/4: The Belly Belatedly Understood

By Betsy L. Angert

See Of/By/4 video at Daily Kos (18 mins.).

Dearest Mommy and my natural father . . .

I apologize. My belly, my bloated body, only belatedly do I understand. It never was in the genes. The abundant meat that weighed heavily on my bones was not caused by my chromosomal structure; it was piled on by Congressional and corporately funded campaigns. Mommy and the husband who helped make me, much to my embarrassment, today I acknowledge my error. I was spoon-fed, and not by the two of you. Legislators, lobbyists, and big businesses that place misleading labels on chemically cooked up cuisines put corn fillers on my every plate. I chowed down. My little body bulged out. From the inside out, I grew bigger and wider. Continue reading

Meet the Meatrix

The Meatrix

As you gobble that fine food, be it steak, a frankfurter, roasted chicken, or an omelet, please, sit back relax. Put your feet up and stay a while. I will furnish the entertainment in the form of a film. Meatrix is fun, fascinating, and far from folly. This presentation is playful; the message profound.

You may recall the fairy tales you loved as a child. The plots varied, although all had elements of mystery. Adventures were abundant. Tots were often so engrossed in the tales, they barely noticed that the themes taught a life lesson. Meatrix is as the fables you once anxiously awaited and even asked others to read aloud to you. Health Scandal of the Decade – Monsanto’s GMO Perversion of Food

By Byron Richards, CCN
Wellness Resources

In the 2010 growing season Monsanto plans to unleash its latest Frankenfood experiment on the American and Canadian public, a new version of genetically mutated corn with eight abnormal gene traits called Genuity SmartStax corn.  It is the culmination of an astonishing scandal that has been steadily building over the past decade.  During this time Monsanto’s mutated seeds have grown to 90% of the U.S. soy crop and 85% of the corn crop – and wheat is next on their agenda.  Their efforts have been marked by corporate bullying and have drawn the attention of the Justice Department who is conducting an antitrust investigation.  All the while they have been spending millions on lobbying to fast track their agenda before the American public even realizes what hit them.  Europeans are livid about the lack of safety testing for this newest Monsanto experiment.  Monsanto is making an ominous power play to corner the worldwide market on food and seeds.  In the process they are adversely altering the very nature of food itself.

The war against our children

By Ken McCartthy

(7-min. VIDEO) The statistics are undeniable. Americans are the least healthy people among the world’s developed nations (Japan, Australia, Germany, Canada, France, England etc.) In fact, there are even undeveloped nations that have healthier populations.

What’s going on? How can the richest country in the world also be the sickest?

Is it the so called “health care” system?  Continue reading

The World Health Organization determined in 2005  it has the authority to dissolve sovereign governments and take control should there be a “pandemic.”  This applies to any country signed onto WHO….which of course we are.  In June, WHO raised this “mild” week-long flu to level 6 pandemic.
