Whoa, daddy – do we rock, or what?
Here are some highlights since our inception on July 21, 2009:
Our busiest day was on November 5th, when 1,320 unique visitors hit the site. The top article was
Back then, Stumble was our most productive means of generating interest in this site. But, due to their absurd referral policy, they kicked me out for promoting COTO too often. Hey, you don’t get something for nothing, Stumble. If you want me telling your readers about interesting articles (and they did find COTO interesting – we still get Stumble hits), then you gotta let me promote an all-volunteer blogsite!
A few of us have been using Buzz Flash lately, and that seems to be working out. About 15% of the articles I promote make it to the front page. I’ve also made some nice connections over there. Some folks promote us on FaceBook, and those referrals have been increasing lately.
Claudia (Laudyms) and Michael Collins get a special star for uploading so many excellent articles by other writers from around the web. I’ve even stopped other folks from doing that because the three of us cover that task nicely. Mike Zimmer (Progressive Mind) and Laurel (Oz) also gets a special star for sending so many spot on articles my way. Mike also promotes many, many COTO articles for us. And thank goodness the best of COTO Crew comes over here and comments, keeping the site interesting.
But what really gets my juices flowing is the original work we produce here. I love that so many of you writers and artists put time into this site. It wouldn’t be what it is without you, and your excellent original work. Thank you – each of you: Bob, John, Megan, Betsy, Richard, Peter, Oz, Tom, John, Mr. M and Bawb… and of course, Michael and Claudia.
Of the most popular articles, COTO originals garner one-third of all hits – which is pretty damned good for non-professionals (with a couple proud-to-know-you exceptions).
Nearly a fourth of all 800 pieces posted here got at least 100 unique visitors. Drumroll, please… Here are the popularity rankings for the top 200 articles. (WordPress doesn’t provide author name, so you’ll just have to recognize your title):
