BUZZ THIS

Fishing boats helping clear oil from the Gulf of Mexico spill from Breton Sound have been called back to dock after four workers reported health problems Wednesday afternoon, Unified Command in Houma announced.

Crew members on three boats reported nausea, dizziness, headaches and chest pains Wednesday about 3:30 p.m. Four workers were taken to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero for treatment, one traveling by air, one by boat and two by ambulance. The other crewmembers refused treatment at the dock.

As a precaution, Unified Command directed all 125 of the commercial vessels that had been outfitted with equipment for oil recovery operations in the Breton Sound area, to return to their temporary accommodations in Breton Sound.

“No other personnel are reporting symptoms, but we are taking this action as an extreme safeguard,” said Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Robinson Cox, the assistant safety officer at Incident Command Post Houma.

The Coast Guard, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, and safety officers from BP are investigating the incident.

  1. Gulf War syndrome III, indeed!

  2. And I remember being outraged by former Governor Christine Todd Whitman as Bush Jr.s USEPA Administrator stating the air around ground zero was “okay to breathe”…meanwhile it was loaded with toxics and led to crippling, debilitating illnesses as well as death! Now, I didn’t think anyone could outdo this deadly lie but now we have Lisa Jackson and Carol Browner, US EPA Administrator and former Administrator allowing toxic dispersal chemicals to be deployed by BP bringing the oil disaster to an even worse toxic soup…this entire event would never have occurred in 1963 or 1970…know it alls know nothing

  3. omg ROFL!

    yes, and terribly tragic

but all I feel is rage and horror
