On August 27, 28, and 29, 2010, Remote Area Medical® will hold three days of free medical, dental, and vision treatment for the benefit of those suffering from economic and medical hardship as a result of the Katrina and BP oil spill disasters in the Gulf. Two coastal parishes near New Orleans have the “greatest need,” according to local authorities helping to organize the event: St. Bernard Parish and Plaquemines Parish.
“These people have now been left with nothing for the second time. They have no income and medical services are difficult for them to access.” RAM plans to hold a two-prong event with one location being in St. Bernard Parish and the second in Plaquemines Parish.
RAM VOLUNTEERS ARE BEING RECRUITED FROM ACROSS THE NATION.
The Louisiana State Boards of Dentistry, Medicine, Optometry, and Nursing have agreed to issue temporary volunteer permits to out-of-state health care professionals at no cost. Malpractice coverage will also be provided. The following health care volunteers are needed: Dentists, Hygienists, Dental Assistants, Ophthalmologists (eye disease and possible refraction), Optometrists, Opticians, Ophthalmic Techs, MDs/Dos, and RNs.
