Monsanto GM Corn in Peril: Beetle develops Bt-resistance

By Rady Ananda

Nature herself may be the best opponent of genetically modified crops and pesticides.  Not only plants, but insects are also developing resistance.  The Western rootworm beetle – one of the most serious threats to corn – has developed resistance to Monsanto’s Bt-corn, and entire crops are being lost. [Image]

Farmers from several Midwest states began reporting root damage to corn that was specifically engineered with a toxin to kill the rootworm.  Iowa State University entomologist Aaron Gassmann recently confirmed that the beetle, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera, has developed resistance to the Bt protein, Cry3Bb1.

Vaccine-Autism documentary on HD Net tonight, Aug. 23

By EBCALA

Health officials in the U.S. have consistently denied that there is any link between childhood vaccines and autism. So why is the government quietly doling out big settlements to families who say just such a link harmed their children?

Vaccines and Autism: Mixed Signals will air on HDNet Television Tuesday night, August 23, on World Report at 9 p.m. Eastern, 8 p.m. Central, 7 p.m. Mountain, and 6 p.m. Pacific. It airs again 3 hours later in each time zone. (Also again Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Eastern, 10 a.m. Central, 9 a.m. Mountain, 8 a.m. Pacific).

Factory Foods Cause 70 pct of all foodborne illnesses; Dairy safest

By Rady Ananda

With all the milk raids over the past few years, you wouldn’t think that dairy is the safest type of food in the U.S., or that factory foods cause 70% of all foodborne illnesses – but that’s just what a new study by the University of Florida reveals. [1]

Permaculture ends meat-vegan debate, promotes anarchy

By Rady Ananda

Review of Meat: A Benign Extravagance by Simon Fairlee (2010, 322 pp.); and

Sepp Holzer’s Permaculture: A Practical Guide to Small-Scale Integrative Farming and Gardening by Sepp Holzer (English version 2011, 232 pp.)

Notice: PBS is rebroadcasting Food, Inc. on Tuesday, August 9 and is kicking off its new Food site. Check local listings here.

While the Bush reign may be described as a war on privacy, Obama’s is clearly a war on food freedom.* As his Monsanto administration arrests organic farmers and distributors, seizing and destroying healthy foods privately contracted and sustainably grown, this tyranny is not unique to the United States.  All over the world, organic, sustainable farmers are under attack by large agribiz actors  who, through government and trade agreements, are regulating them out of business and destroying the environment in the process.

Two farmers arguing against ecocidal hyper-regulation and “conventional” and “orthodox organic” farming are Simon Fairlee of England and Sepp Holzer of Austria. Both have written seminal books that should grace the bookshelves of everyone who gardens, farms or cares about the impact of agriculture on the biosphere.

FDA Goons and the Second Amendment

By Rady Ananda

On July 16, the US Food and Drug Administration posted a libelous release linking a foodborne pathogen to a South Carolina raw dairy before confirming whether or not such a link existed. Two weeks later, the FDA determined that Tucker Adkins Dairy products were free of all contaminants but has still not issued a retraction at its webpage.

“How do we get our reputation back?”  That’s what Tommy and Carolyn Adkins asked the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. (FTCLDF)

Without a retraction at the web page, they can’t.

Rawesome Raided Again! Farmers and private food club owner arrested for selling fresh milk

By Rady Ananda

About 20 armed agents from various local, state and federal agencies, coordinated by the US Food and Drug Administration, staged another raid on fresh foods sold in California at a Ventura County farm and at Rawesome Foods, a private buying club providing members with unadulterated, unpasteurized milk and dairy products, among other items.

Healthy Family Farms owner Sharon Palmer and one of her employees, Eugenie Bloch, were arrested, along with James Stewart, the operator of Rawesome Foods located in Venice, California.

A protest is planned for tomorrow’s arraignment hearings (Thursday, August 4) at Los Angeles Superior Court, Criminal Justice Center, 210 W. Temple Street. Organizers are asking protesters to arrive at 7:45 am.

Canary Party Convention: Watch Cut Poison Burn

By Ginger Taylor
The Canary Party

As you may know, last weekend we held the first Canary Party Convention to agree on a set of principles on which the party will be based, to set our direction and to begin projects to bring greater accountability in medical corruption and greater freedom in medical treatment.  I think that it is safe to say that everyone who attended agreed that the meeting was a resounding success.

Cut Poison Burn

One of the truly powerful experiences of our time together in Minneapolis was when we had the honor of screening Cut Poison Burn, the new cancer documentary featuring Jim Navarro and his family.  You can watch it for a donation amount of your choice.

DSM-5 Approves New Fad Diagnosis for Child Psychiatry: Antipsychotic Use Likely to Rise

By Allen Frances, MD
Psychiatric Times

The DSM-5 Scientific Review Group was the last hope for an eleventh hour DSM-5 save. This hope recently died. Its first decision makes clear that the group will be no more than an easy rubber stamp willing to approve even the worst ideas dreamed up by the DSM-5 work groups. Its quick acceptance of Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD, also known as Temper Dysregulation) shows that just about anything can make it through this sham review process. Watch out for yet another fad sparked by child psychiatry.

Massachusetts considers allowing unvaccinated kids in public school

By Rady Ananda

In January, Representative John D. Keenan of Salem, Massachusetts introduced a bill to allow students not immunized to be admitted to schools upon the written request of a parent. After all, if vaccines are effective, then those who take them are protected from those who don’t.

“Rep. Keenan filed this legislation ‘on behalf of’ a constituent,” his Chief of Staff, Lynne Montague, told COTO Report.  “In Massachusetts, constituents may file bills via his/her elected official by ‘the right of free petition.’”

Currently, the bill is before the Committee on Public Health and there is no set time for its report.  If the Committee reports the bill favorably (with or without amendments) this session, it will be forwarded on for the next appropriate committee to review.  If the measure is reported adversely, it will not advance unless it’s overturned by either branch.

On June 28, a public hearing was held where proponents of the measure argued about the health risks of vaccines and the right of health freedom — to opt for or reject medical procedures and still be allowed full participation in society. Here is some of that testimony:

Murdoch and Vaccines: Exposure of Crimes Reveals a Much Larger Story

By William Newton

“… the evidence of sleazy and scandalous behavior of the Murdoch papers has expanded geometrically.” Michael Collins

Rupert Murdoch’s news empire faces intense media and legal scrutiny.  Current revelations focus on Murdoch’s News of the World hacking into the Dowler family’s voice messages during the kidnapping of their 12 year old daughter Milly, and Murdoch’s London Times for allegedly having illegally obtained the financial, property and medical information of former UK Labour Party Leader Gordon Brown during the time he was chancellor. [Image]

A 2010 exposure of Murdoch’s Times of London revealed that it had published forged documents purporting to show that Iran planned to do nuclear experiments for an atomic weapon, and as Collins points out, it was Murdoch’s “drumbeat of misinformation” that helped mislead people into believing that Saddam Hussein was involved in the 9/11 attack, supporting Bush’s invasion of Iraq, though intelligence was “unsubstantiated, contradicted, or even non-existent,” according to the Senate Intelligence Committee Unveils Final Phase II Reports on Prewar Iraq Intelligence from June 5, 2008.

But what has not yet been covered is the media circus Murdoch’s London Times created internationally as it fabricated lies against a respected British doctor, with consequences that could impact the lives of billions of children in the world.

Vaccines as ‘Cluster Bombs’

By Rowan Contraho

Shiv Chopra, the Canadian microbiologist known for having helped stop the approval of rBGH, did so not by making true but complex arguments about its association to cancers, but by reducing the issue to an undeniable biological fact and thus simple legal issue.

The law said that no factory containing so much as a single rat dropping or feather is considered clean.  rBGH gives cows mastitis which leads to pus in their milk.   rBGH thus turns cows into pus factories.

Controversial ag spending bill defunds local food systems, promotes meat monopoly

By Rady Ananda

Plutocrats aimed another weapon at the nation’s poor and at small and midsized farmers, this time thru the 2012 agriculture appropriations bill, H.R. 2112, which the House passed on June 16. The 82-page bill returns some federal spending to 2006 levels and others to 2008 levels.

Now being reviewed by the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, the final version of HR 2112 will lay the terrain on which the 2012 Farm Bill will be crafted. The House Agriculture Committee began preparatory hearings on the 2012 Farm Bill this week, reports NSAC.

Key sections provide deep cuts to domestic food programs, threatening food banks, low-income seniors, women and children, and farmers markets supported by WIC vouchers issued thru the Women, Infants and Children program.

WHO caves: Allows smallpox stockpiling for three more years

By Rady Ananda

Once again, the World Health Assembly failed to set a deadline for the destruction of smallpox samples, delaying discussion for another three years. Though it still affirms the need for live sample destruction, the two-day “contentious debate” (repeated for the last 25 years) ended on May 24 in a victory for bioweapons development in the U.S. and Russia.

“The retention of the existing stocks of smallpox virus are not required” to maintain and bolster current vaccine supplies, argues Dr. D. A. Henderson in Biosecurity and Bioterrorism: Biodefense Strategy, Practice, and Science. Through current technology, smallpox vaccines can be developed from the known genome. Live viruses are simply no longer needed.

Home Rule takes a beating as Maine defeats food freedom bills

By Rady Ananda

In the state that made international news this year when three towns passed a food sovereignty ordinance, two bills that would have bolstered them at the state level met with defeat in Maine’s legislative Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee.

Sponsored by Rep. Walter Kumiega, LD 366 was rejected by the Ag Committee on May 11. The raw milk bill would have obviated licensing for the direct sale from farmer to consumer and protected small operations from overly burdensome rules recently imposed at the bureaucratic level.

“Requiring someone with two cows or a handful of goats to invest ten thousand dollars or more to build an inspectable facility doesn’t make economic sense,” Kumiega told Food Freedom. “Hand milking is a perfectly acceptable method and does not need the same facilities that a machine milking operation does. LD 366 seeks to restore an exemption that was a standard practice up until two years ago, when it was changed by an administrative decision.”

How Safe Is Your Food? GMOs, Foodborne Illness and Trade Agreements

Graph: Data compiled by GRAIN from government and UN sources, 2008-2010 (except Australia=2005)

By Rady Ananda

A research group that supports community-controlled and biodiversity-based food systems, GRAIN, has released a global report, Food Safety for Whom? Corporate Wealth vs. Peoples’ Health, showing how governments and corporations use “food safety” to manipulate market access and control. Rather than making food safer, domestic and trade rules “force open markets, or backdoor ways to limit market access.”

FDA claims power to seize food without evidence of contamination

By Rady Ananda

A few hours ago, the Food and Drug Administration declared it no longer needs credible evidence to seize food that may be contaminated. Ignoring the Fourth Amendment entirely, the FDA claims that based on mere suspicion that a food product has been contaminated or mislabeled, and that serious illness or death will result, it can hold the food for 30 days while it then looks for evidence. It claims this power under the Food Safety Modernization Act, which President Monsanto, I mean, Obama, signed in January.

On May 4th, the FDA stated:

“Previously, the FDA’s ability to detain food products applied only when the agency had credible evidence that a food product presented was contaminated or mislabeled in a way that presented a threat of serious adverse health consequences or death to humans or animals.

Sebelius-backed biotech firm reorganizing under criminal probe

KBA urged Homeland Security to locate bioweapons lab in Tornado Alley

Kathleen Sebelius with Tom Thornton in this 2008 Topeka Capital-Journal image.

By Rady Ananda

The head of Health and Human Services not only denies that Americans have a right to bodily health and food of their choice, but Kathleen Sebelius is hell bent on spending taxpayer money to promote genetically modified food and drugs. One of her projects, Kansas Bioscience Authority, a publicly funded venture enterprise developed to promote biotechnology, is currently under criminal investigation. CEO Tom Thornton has resigned.

KBA also lobbied the Dept. of Homeland Security for the highly controversial bioweapons and cattle disease lab in the state, along with former Governor Sebelius, now President Obama’s Cabinet Secretary. Under her governorship and full support, the Kansas Economic Growth Act of 2004 passed, funding KBA’s mission with $581 million in tax revenue to develop a bioscience industry in Kansas.

Are Vaccines Obsolete?

By P. Daniels

In reporting on an explosive new meta-analysis of the vaccine-autism link by Dr. Helen Ratajczak, CBS has opened questions surrounding vaccinations:

“The article in the Journal of Immunotoxicology is entitled Theoretical aspects of autism: Causes–A review. The author is Helen Ratajczak, surprisingly herself a former senior scientist at a pharmaceutical firm. Ratajczak did what nobody else apparently has bothered to do: she reviewed the body of published science since autism was first described in 1943. Not just one theory suggested by research such as the role of MMR shots, or the mercury preservative thimerosal, but all of them.

“Ratajczak’s article states, in part, that ‘Documented causes of autism include genetic mutations and/or deletions, viral infections, and encephalitis following vaccination [emphasis added]. Therefore, autism is the result of genetic defects and/or inflammation of the brain….
