It’s just past 9 a.m. when Alex Jones pulls his Dodge Charger into a desolate parking lot in Austin. From the outside, the squat, single-story office complex that Jones calls his “command center” resembles a moon base surrounded by fields of dying grass. But inside, blinking banks of high-tech recording gear fill the studio where he broadcasts The Alex Jones Show, a daily talk show that airs on 63 stations nationwide. Jones draws a bigger audience online than Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck combined — and his conspiracy-laced rants make the two hosts sound like tea-sipping NPR hosts on Zoloft.

A stocky 37-year-old with a flop of brown hair and a beer gut, Jones usually bounds into the studio, eager to launch into one of his trademark tirades against the “global Stasi Borg state” — the corporate-surveillance prison planet that he believes is being secretly forged by an evil cabal of bankers, industrialists, politicians and generals. This morning, though, Jones looks deflated. Five days ago, a mentally disturbed 22-year-old named Jared Loughner opened fire on a crowd in Tucson, Arizona, killing six and seriously wounding Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Loughner was reported to be a fan of Loose Change, a film Jones produced that has become the bible for those who believe 9/11 was an inside job.

Wikileaks’ Julian Assange and Conspiracy Theories

John Young was one of the co-founders of Wikileaks. He quickly left the organization in disagreement with some of its policies (CNET). Young was a natural choice for Wikileaks since he’s operated a leak website, CRYPTOME, since 1996. His site just released two articles on July 31 attributed to Wikileaks’ Julian Assange (me@i.1.org). The announcement read:

“These essays on conspiracies by Julian Assange (me@iq.org) were retrieved today from his website iq.org. The first from the currently active site, dated November 10, 2006, and the second at archive.org, dated December 3, 2006.” CRYPTOME – 31 July 2010 (author’s emphasis)

Left-Leaning Despisers of the 9/11 Truth Movement: Do You Really Believe in Miracles?

According to several left-leaning critics of the 9/11 Truth Movement, some of its central claims, especially about the destruction of the World Trade Center, show its members to be scientifically challenged. In the opinion of some of these critics, moreover, claims made by members of this movement are sometimes unscientific in the strongest possible sense, implying an acceptance of magic and miracles.

After documenting this charge in Part I of this essay, I show in Part II that the exact opposite is the case: that the official account of the destruction of the World Trade Center implies miracles (I give nine examples), and that the 9/11 Truth Movement, in developing an alternative hypothesis, has done so in line with the assumption that the laws of nature did not take a holiday on 9/11. In Part III, I ask these left-leaning critics some questions evoked by the fact that it is they, not members of the 9/11 Truth Movement, who have endorsed a conspiracy theory replete with miracle stories as well as other absurdities.

The underpants bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, is a curious terrorist.  He became disillusioned with his privileged life as the son of a bank chairman and member of the Nigerian elite, it would seem.  Rather than pursuing his studies in London, he retreated to Yemen to learn the ways of al Qaeda inspired terrorism.

Farouk was so indiscreet that his father reported him to the U.S. Embassy as a potential terrorist in November.   A month later, he managed to get on a jumbo jet headed for Detroit to complete a terror mission.   Despite his training in engineering at the prestigious London School of Economics, Farouk failed in his mission.  He couldn’t  mix his explosives to achieve the desired effect.  He apparently forgot to detonate the explosive device in mid flight, waiting until just before landing in Detroit to start his task.  He retrieved and set off the chemicals to create the explosion in full view of passengers.

What kind of terrorist is this?  He doesn’t know when, how or where to conduct his criminal enterprise.

Is this the best al Qaeda can do?

Is this the justification to for a media manufactured scare-a-thon about the danger Farouk poses to our “freedoms?”

Or is this guy some sort of ringer in yet another moronic master plan ?

While we are all busily contemplating what happened to our civil rights, our liberties and our healthcare insurance, I thought it might be important to recognize and memorialize the kind of humanity and human spirit conspicuously and vacuously absent from American media today.   That humanity and spirit was and is embodied in the memory of The Journalist, Gary Webb. 

In his place we have the media issued to us by the same people who murdered the Kennedy brothers, Martin Luther King Jr and that brought us the production that was the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York City in 2001.

To Drink or Not to Drink

Once upon a time an evil warlock visits a kingdom and poisons the central well with a potion that drives people mad. The next morning all who drink from that well go crazy. The queen, however, knew about this in advance, and didn’t drink from the communal well. The next day, those who drank the poisoned water came to the queen and accused her of being the crazy one. The queen, aware of what had transpired, was faced with a dilemma: drink from the well and lose her sanity like the rest of her subjects, but remain queen; or don’t drink, remain sane, but be swept from power by those who would view her very sanity as madness.
