By Elinor Mills
CNet

Sixteen people were arrested in the United States today in connection with hacking attacks by the Anonymous group of online activists, as well as one person in the U.K. and four people in the Netherlands, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

An indictment filed last week in San Jose, Calif., names 14 people accused of conspiring to intentionally damage protected computers at PayPal last December in retribution for PayPal suspending WikiLeaks’ account to prevent supporters from donating to the whistleblower site.

China attacks WordPress.com: ‘Largest and most sustained attack’ in WP history

By Rady Ananda

For two days this month, WordPress.com, which hosts a tenth of the world’s websites drawing nearly 300 million unique visitors a month, suffered the largest distributed denial-of-service attack in its six-year history. Six separate attacks on March 3 and 4, mostly originating from China, targeted a single Chinese-language site hosted by WP.

On March 3rd, WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg told TechCrunch (also hosted by WP), “There’s an ongoing DDoS attack that was large enough to impact all three of our datacenters in Chicago, San Antonio, and Dallas.”

Meet Alex Jones, the Talk Radio Host Behind Charlie Sheen’s Crazy Rants

The most paranoid man in America is trying to overthrow the ‘global Stasi Borg state,’ one conspiracy theory at a time

By Alexander Zaitchik
Rolling Stone

It’s just past 9 a.m. when Alex Jones pulls his Dodge Charger into a desolate parking lot in Austin. From the outside, the squat, single-story office complex that Jones calls his “command center” resembles a moon base surrounded by fields of dying grass. But inside, blinking banks of high-tech recording gear fill the studio where he broadcasts The Alex Jones Show, a daily talk show that airs on 63 stations nationwide. Jones draws a bigger audience online than Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck combined — and his conspiracy-laced rants make the two hosts sound like tea-sipping NPR hosts on Zoloft.

A stocky 37-year-old with a flop of brown hair and a beer gut, Jones usually bounds into the studio, eager to launch into one of his trademark tirades against the “global Stasi Borg state” — the corporate-surveillance prison planet that he believes is being secretly forged by an evil cabal of bankers, industrialists, politicians and generals. This morning, though, Jones looks deflated. Five days ago, a mentally disturbed 22-year-old named Jared Loughner opened fire on a crowd in Tucson, Arizona, killing six and seriously wounding Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Loughner was reported to be a fan of Loose Change, a film Jones produced that has become the bible for those who believe 9/11 was an inside job.

Hacked Emails Show US Chamber of Commerce Targeted VelvetRevolution.US, Other Progressive Groups for Smear Campaign

By Brad Friedman
The Brad Blog

It looks like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce — the Rightwing lobbying firm now allowed to accept hundreds of thousands, if not millions, in secret funding from corporations likely subsidized with your tax dollars — has been caught in the act of creating a $2 million disinformation campaign to attack progressive organizations such as VelvetRevolution.us and its StopTheChamber.com initiative. [Since we believe in disclosure, unlike the Chamber: VR was co-founded by The BRAD BLOG.]

After the disinfo campaign targeted “Anonymous”, the online “hacktivist” organization which had been working to disrupt those who companies who had attacked WikiLeaks (See our December ’10 report: “‘ALL-OUT CYBER WAR’ OVER WIKILEAKS”), “Anonymous” struck back by hacking one of the “intelligence security firms” retained by the Chamber and posting thousands of their emails online.

WikiLeaks: The emperor wears no clothes

Now WikiLeaks has laid bare the lies and collusion, we pledge to not just witness but actively participate in its fight for democracy

By John Pilger, et al.
Open Letter posted at The Guardian

We are writing this statement in support of democracy.

Since Sunday, 28 November, WikiLeaks and five major newspapers from around the world (the Guardian, the New York Times, Der Spiegel, Le Monde, El Pais) have been publishing redacted versions of leaked US diplomatic cables in an ongoing story that has become known as “Cablegate”. The identity of the original leaker is – as yet – unconfirmed.

This is not the first leak of confidential documentation that exposes governmental lies – and it won’t be the last. Secret information has long been used by elites to build and maintain power over huge populations of citizens, workers, armed forces and others. But when the secrets of the elite are revealed, the power they represent can be confronted and reversed.

Globalists Can Win Cyber War, But Not Information War

By Eric Blair
Activist Post

The establishment has been desperately trying to implement legal control over the Internet. They’re attacking freedom of speech and the open Internet from all angles; through government tools, corporate methods, and even the courts. All three of these methods are converging in the WikiLeaks case, but that’s not the only battle being waged in the so-called “all-out cyber war.” [Image]

By Eric Blair

But now they are going after alternative news kingpin and globalist critic Matt Drudge of the Drudge Report.
